I just LOVE the old Hymns. Way back in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s churches were packed with young families full of energy and singing power! Those old songs and voices would ring out with the snazzy pipes of the big, massive church organ! Everything felt energetic and alive! Why? Because it WAS!
Today, most of those parents have graduated to live with Christ and their children…many have found other interests. Many of the organ players are long gone. The old hymns sound tired and old. In small churches, there are fewer and fewer young voices to sing them. The songs have been sung so many times they’ve lost their meaning…However, many of them were “old” when they were sung with power just after WWII!
When I think of songs like How Great Thou Art it makes me think, “HOW GREAT THOU ART!” I think of the massiveness of God and the enormous wonders He’s created! It makes me think of the massiveness of God and the microscopic wonders He’s created! Wonders just as small as giant wonders are Huge!
It makes we WANT to roll the windows down on my car and sing “How Great Thou Art” as loud as I can!
And once again, I hear my mother’s voice saying to me, “If you’re going to sing, OPEN your mouth and sing!
My Thought for your Week: When you sing about the wonders of God – Open Your Mouth and Sing Like You Mean It! (If you’re driving, try not to get a ticket.)
