Years ago, when Billy Graham was still doing his prime-time televised revivals, I remember him talking about a father and his young boy. They were out in their boat on a lake, and the son, who was much too young to drive was insisting that the father let him take the wheel. His father knew that was not a good idea and gave him reason after reason as to why the boy should not drive. Finally, the father relented, the boy took the wheel and headed straight for the rocks. The point of Rev. Graham’s message was an obvious one: Most of the time we think we are the ones who can drive our lives best – NOT God. Even though we, as believers, say God is in control of my life…our actions say otherwise. Even when we are heading straight for the rocks, it can be so difficult to relinquish the wheel! In Matthew 6: 25-27 Jesus tells us: 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Giving your life to Christ means obeying his commands, and trusting that when we actively follow Him, God will provide. Our new choices will, with God’s guidance, steer us away from the rocks. My Thought for Your Week. If you are struggling this week, put your faith into action! Pray, give whatever issue you have to God and trust that He will pull you through it! Let Him drive and have faith that, if you are following His will and His commands you will never head for the rocks!
