We are coming up on Christmas. It is the holiday I love the most. It is the holiday I like the least. Christmas eve is, probably my favorite night of the year. It is amazing how quiet the streets get after 7 pm. If you’re out driving, sometimes there is not another car in sight for miles.
Christmas shopping season and all that goes with it is something …I just can’t do. All of the commercialism, the pressure to find just the right gift, the wrapping, the relentless music…The National Retail Federation is estimating holiday sales of over $700 Billion for 2018.
I wish we could just get together like we do on Thanksgiving. Or, maybe give something we made or found or just give something simple. I realize not many of us have time to “make” something for everyone on our list…
How about this: We all give to our favorite charity exactly what we would have spent on gifts for family and friends. Attach a bow to a piece of paper that says “I gave your present to the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter [Or, some other great cause] because I love you so much.”
Wouldn’t it be amazing how many people we could help with $700 Billion? My Thought for Your Week: Both God and people love the gift of “time.” If you’re going to spend this Christmas, spend some time with God and with someone who really needs someone.
